You will prepare a full 6 page (cover and reference pages are not included in page count) book review/research paper based on Maia Szalavitz’s book Unbroken Brain: A Revolutionary New Way of Understanding Addiction.
In the first half of your paper,
a. provide a brief reflection of the book
b. provide a brief summary of the chapters that you found to be most fascinating with a subsequent explanation as to why
c. succinctly summarize Szalavitz’s main arguments that refute the conventional disease model of addiction.
In the second half of your paper,
d. construct an argument by conducting your own search of the peer-reviewed literature on substance use disorders in which you either agree with or refute Szalavitz’s premise
e. formulate a cogent conclusion with a personal commentary on how you utilized your critical thinking skills
This is a research-based paper that should be appropriately cited in APA format (seventh edition). Your citations should include a minimum four academic journals and as may periodicals as you would like. (Periodical literature includes magazine and newspaper articles.)
