The purpose of this activity is to explore use of statistics in peer-reviewed social work research. For Activity #1, you should do each of the following to obtain credit for this assignment:
1. Go to Google Scholar.
2. Select a social work-related research topic that also intersects with issues of Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI).
3. Identify a peer-reviewed journal article that is empirical (quantitative) and contains statistical analyses.
4. Skim the analysis section and review how descriptive statistics are used in the analysis. Specifically, you should be looking for analysis involving measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode) and measures of variability (range, standard deviation, and variance). Note 1: The mode may not be present, but the mean and the median are typically described. Note 2: The range or variance, may not be present, but the standard deviation is typically described.
5. Copy/paste the portion of the analysis involving the measures of central tendency and measures of variability into a Word document. Please be sure to place this verbatim information into quotation marks and provide an APA-style in-text citation.
6. Write 1-2 sentences (in your own words) about what these results mean for the study, social work, or ADEI. Focus only on the measures of central tendency and measures of variability.
7. Provide an APA-style reference for the paper.
8. Attach a pdf copy of your article to your submission.
