Problem Statement • To design a wind-to-electric power generation system for a small-scale Vertical Axis Home-Scale Wind Turbine that can extract the maximum amount of electrical energy possible from the turbine whose rotational speed keeps on changing continuously due to change in wind speed. • To develop the complete power electronics system for VAWT from generator to storage system and conduct testing to extract results and carRy out performance analysis at different wind speeds.
Objectives 1. To design a control mechanism for a small-scale vertical axis wind turbine to extract maximum power from the turbine at continuously changing wind speed. 2. Design and development of power electronics system for the operation of the smallscale VAWTThesis is about designing an SMC based adaptive control MPPT algorithm with complete simulation of Permanent magnet DC motor 24V and Single Switch inverting buck-boost converter to convert variating 24V dc generator output to 12V constant supply to the battery.
