For this assignment, imagine that you have been contacted by your local school district and asked to provide an educational presentation to middle and high school counselors about a specific anxiety diagnosis or OCD. Be sure to remember who your audience is for this presentation, and who they work with, and then identify a specific disorder (within anxiety or OCD categories) that you would like to present on.
Be sure your presentation addresses the following (each topic is worth 1 point of the overall grade):
- Include an overview of the major DSM-5-TR criteria for the condition you select. Do not directly copy text from the DSM-5-TR. (1-2 slides)
- Discuss how these symptoms may present in adolescents (i.e. what might teachers and counselors be seeing at school) (1-2 slides)
- Identify how culture and diversity can influence symptoms. (1-2 slides)
- Identify 2 assessments that help determine if the disorder is present and to what degree (1 slide)
- Offer a description of individual therapy interventions (based on current evidence) that could be used to help a client with this condition manage their symptoms. (1-2 slides)
- Offer a brief description of the best current medications used to treat the condition. You do not need to provide actual drug names, but you do need to identify the drug classes and briefly describe what these medications do. You must cite this information. (1-2 slides)
- Identify and describe two apps, informational websites, or client education resources that could be used by a client to use as homework to help them address their symptoms? (1-2 slides)
- Include descriptions of 2 family therapy interventions (based on the best current evidence) that could be implemented to address the symptoms and promote healing. (1-2 slides)
- Determine any ethical issues a counselor may encounter when working with an adolescent. (1-2 slides)
