In my research proposal’s draft, I have written these paragraphs in the Literature review part:
Richard (1991) defines critical
thinking as making out in terms of scientific observation being aware of our thinking
process, and activating and organizing matters by taking an understanding. When
students engage in critical thinking, they are prompted to think independently,
question assumptions, examine and combine information, and take it further by
formulating new hypotheses and verifying them against evidence.
Key writers in the field of language education, such as “Students’
perceptions of applying critical thinking to learning and
practicing English speaking skills” by author Nguyen Huu Tai. This study
aims to explore English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students’ understanding and
perceptions of applying critical thinking to their practice of speaking skills.
It specifically investigates how critical thinking can affect speaking ability
amongst learners of low-English levels who are from non-English speaking countries. Additionally, Siti Maizul Habibah, Rr NANIK Setyowati and Maya Mustika
provide “Improving Critical Thinking Skills of Students through the
Development of Teaching Materials.”
According to Muhammadiyeva et al. (2020), critical thinking is pivotal
in speaking skills, as well as facilitating foreign language learners in
engaging with academic discourse by introducing diverse viewpoints and
scrutinizing the information and evidence presented during discussions on
semi-academic subjects. Unfortunately, research directly focused on developing
critical thinking through speaking activities at HUST seems limited. Therefore,
the research is conducted to improve critical thinking skills
for FL1 K66 FOFL.
