Appreciative inquiry challenges us to look beyond the common narrative of ethical failures and shortcomings in business. We are invited to discover instances of ethical integrity, to dream how these can be nurtured, to design pathways for their growth, and to commit to a future where such virtues become normative. This concept intertwines with Philippians’s message, where Paul encourages us to focus on what is good and praiseworthy. Appreciative inquiry prompts us to seek and amplify the positive aspects of organizations and their practices.
For this week’s discussion, take time to reflect on at least one of the 4-Ds and the questions, “What challenges might businesses (or other organizations) face in prioritizing ethical practices, and how might they overcome them through a Christ-centered approach?”
• Discover: Can you imagine examples of businesses demonstrating Christ-like integrity, compassion, or stewardship? Consider how these actions align with Biblical principles. Do you believe a company and its leaders can emulate Christ?
• Dream of a business world where such ethical practices are widespread. How could this impact society, the environment, and how we view success and profitability?
• Design: Contemplate practical steps businesses can take to cultivate these ethical practices. How can Christian values guide these strategies?
• Destiny: Consider the long-term implications of embedding such ethical practices in the business culture. How can we, as future business leaders, commit to this path?
If you do not see yourself in the business world, adapt your response to fit the setting where you intend to serve (e.g., nonprofits, counseling centers, churches, sports).

The business world presents a complex landscape for ethical decision-making. How do we navigate this environment while staying true to our values and faith as Christians? The chapters on entrepreneurship, advertising, insurance, healthcare, workforce diversity, and animal rights all point to the diverse and intricate nature of these challenges. Like a city on a hill or a lamp on a stand, our actions and decisions in the business realm bear witness to Christ and the world. We are called not only to avoid wrongdoing but to actively demonstrate integrity, compassion, and justice in our professional lives. Take any issues highlighted in this workshop’s reading and address how a Christian perspective shapes the approach to that subject.

As we wrap up this course, we are reminded that the world is ever-evolving, especially with advancements in technology at an unprecedented rate, shifts in work patterns, and new ethical challenges with AI and robotics. Take a moment to reflect on what changes have occurred in your lifetime and what types of changes and challenges you anticipate in the future. Is there anything you are looking forward to and anything that you are nervous about? How will this affect your career and other life decisions that you make? Share a biblical truth that gives you hope as you face uncertainties.
