DH 226 State Comparisons Group Presentation
The class will be divided into groups to present a comparison of dental hygiene scope of practice and dental hygiene care of assigned states. The presentation must be 10- 15 minutes and include a minimum of a two (2) page paper to be turned in as part of the grade. Students are encouraged to be creative and have fun with this presentation. If the presentation is recorded, you may use your choice of media, as allowed by the instructor. Each group will compare their state with another state, assigned by the instructor.
Mechanics of State Comparisons Paper (also refer to rubric):
• APA format
• Paper should have a cover page that has the:
o Title of the presentation
o Title of the class
o Date
o Group members’ names
• Minimum of 2 pages (not including cover page and reference page)
• Reference page with at least 3 credible references
Dental Hygiene Scope of Practice/Care: In the presentation and the paper, describe how each category, if applicable, is different or similar in each state.
• Licensing
o Types of licenses available (full, temporary, faculty, etc.)
o Degree required
o Examinations-National board/Clinical exam
o Jurisprudence/ Ethics exam
o CPR
o Any additional certifications available or necessary
• Supervision
o What types for which procedures?
• Scope of Practice
o What duties can the hygienists legally perform?
• Expanded Duty Hygienist
o Does the state allow midlevel hygiene (such as RDHAP)? -When did they pass this? How do you become one?
• What does it take to acquire a license in that state if you are licensed in another state?
• Pay
• Job outlook
