Differentiate the factors of quality and quantity when drawing connections with data.

For this assignment you will explore different ways to visualize data using the Charts function in Excel.

Step 1: Choose a dataset from the provided resources and open the data file in Excel.

Step 2: Once the dataset is imported into Excel, you will need to create four different charts (for example, a pie chart, bar chart, etc.) from a subset of data. You can choose different subsets of data for the charts, however at least two have to be from the same subset of data with the same variables. So either four from one subset or two each from two subsets of data.

Step 3: Write a paper comparing the four charts you have created. Use a screenshot or copy and paste function within excel to put the chart into your document. Copy and label each chart in a word document and then address the following questions.

  1. What dataset did you choose?
  2. Which variables did you choose for your charts?
  3. Which charts did you choose, and why?
  4. Which chart best represents the data, and why?
  5. Are there enough responses to illustrate the results? How do you know?
  6. Are you getting useful results? What else do you want to know? Is the dataset equipped to answer those followup questions?
  7. Where else could you get data (in either better quantity or of better quality) to answer the questions
  8. There are times that you need to make a decision in research that compromises either quality of the data or quantity. Why does this matter and when would one make the decision to sacrifice one or the other? (Use at least one outside source in answering this question as support for your reasons behind compromising data quality or quantity. Be sure to cite using APA formatting.)
