This is the question for the first essay:
There is currently a lot of public discussion about and concern about the possible social risks of artificial intelligence. Discuss some of the critical insights that a feminist political economic approach to artificial intelligence adds to these debates.
Please find attached the course material which I am supposed to use to write the essay. There is a folder containing two optional readings, which I added just in case but I don’t think they are particularly useful.
My original idea was to generally introduce the field, so talk about how the feminist political approach was born, specifically as a critic to the patriarchal ideology, and its particular attention to culture and then explain why it is a good instrument to highlight and criticise the bias embedded in AI. Here I would like to use Algorithm of oppression as a case study, talking about how the algorithmic practices of googles and other search engines contribute to the exacerbation of sexist and racist discourses.
