- Discuss the similarities and differences between the characters of Antigone in Sophocles’ play Antigone and that of Mrs. Haley in Susan Glaspell’s play Trifles.
Points to think about:
1.ANALYZE: From Adichie’s TED talk we learn: “Power is not just the ability to tell the story of another person but to make it the definitive story of that person” How do the characters manifest power? How does this lead to the conflict in Antigone on the one hand, and the resolution of the play Trifles on the other? How does Antigone’s position with respect to her brother draw attention to justice and injustice? What does it show about her character? How does Sophocles draw our attention to this issue? Stay focused on the sections discussed in class.
2.Pay special attention to our responses, as readers, as you compare and contrast power and wisdom. Which characters have power? How do they choose to “walk” with that power? Use quotes from the play to argue your point.
Use these questions as a guide when drafting your essay; DO NOT address every question unless they are all critical to your argument.

- You must use quotations from the play (with line #) to support your argument. Each quotation should be only 2 lines. You can use ellipsis to shorten longer quotes.
