Your Journal is a place for you to be REACTIVE – to discuss what’s going on
with your clinical assignment related to topics you have studied or are
studying, and feelings you are having in reference to your experience. It is a
place for you to be PROACTIVE – to
actively plan to question, challenge, digest and apply all the learning
experiences you are having during the course. Journaling helps you to merge
concepts from other nursing courses, which prepares you for clinical practice.
This is a PASS/FAIL assignment (failure to complete your reflective
journal, will result in a failing clinical grade, which will ultimately result
in failing the course).
Directions: Clinical experiences should
be new and exciting. You will be working with a family who resides the
community of your choice and your reflections is a place to expound upon the
experience. Your entries can be brief or
extensive. The length is dictated by your experience during that day. Remember,
significant learning constantly happens, and this journal is your opportunity
to reflect on your role as a student nurse. There will be some guided journal
entries that you are required to share with your clinical instructor. The Reflective Journal is to be submitted
weekly and no additional time will be given.
Clinical Week 1 –
Discuss your expectations from this clinical rotation. Read Chapter 20
Family Development and Family Nursing Assessment and Genomics. Use your book to develop your own questions
for this assessment. The following pages will be helpful but not inclusive, you
are welcome to add more questions or different questions that would be more
