Description:
For this activity, you will participate in a discussion about what makes an interesting and compelling introduction and conclusion to a piece of writing.
Objectives:
- Identify interesting and compelling introductions and conclusions.
Instructions:
Step 1: Respond to the following:
Find and cite at least one good introduction or conclusion to a piece of writing, such as a book or an article, and explain why you feel it is interesting and compelling.
Note: When we say “cite” we mean for you to actually include the opening or concluding paragraph in your post so your instructor and peers can read it, too. Remember to cite the work in APA format!
Step 2: Read other students’ posts and respond to at least two other students. Incorporate personal experience, if appropriate, to help support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues and provide examples to support opinions.
In your responses to your peers’ posts, be concrete, make suggestions for change, including strategies, movements, obstacles, and so forth. Outside-the-box thinking and debate is encouraged.
Be sure to cite any outside sources in current APA format.
Due Date:
- Online Class: Initial posts must be submitted by due date. Subsequent replies are due by the end of the week (see Course Policies and Procedures or your Instructor for details).
- Ground Class: All post must be submitted by the due date.
Grading:
Be certain to review the rubric to ensure you are fulfilling the requirements.
Use references as need be, but note that they are not required on prompts that specifically ask about personal experiences.
