Discussion Board: Pair Activity: Problem Statement, Root Problem, and Developing a New Program/Service Idea

My population in a specific geographic community is unhoused individuals:  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE READINGS FOR THIS MODULE AND USE YOUR TEXTBOOK EXAMPLES. Example from Textbook:

Selected Factors Affecting Adolescent First Offenders
Who Commit Status Offenses:

Some single working mothers have limited ability to meet
the many needs of their adolescent children for parental
guidance.
2. Some adolescent children of single, working mothers lack
male role models.
3.  There are no after-school programs for adolescents in the
community.

These Factors Appear to Lead to the Following Results:

 1. Adolescents whose needs for parental guidance are not
met by parents may feel neglected.
2. Lack of positive, male role models for some adolescents
leads to bonding with older peers who may encourage
delinquent behavior.
3.  Absence of organized after-school activities for   adolescents
results in many hours of idle, nonproductive time every day,
which may lead to participation in delinquent activitie

Give this some thought and think through the problem, what is the cause of the problem, and articulate a new program or service that could alleviate the issue. (No social policies please only community-based direct service programs). You can use the internet to see what programs may currently exist in other places and can base your program on these successful programs. This is not considered plagiarism.  In research we call it, replication.

APA formatting is required with the following headings:

The Problem Statement/Program
Practice writing and explaining the major issue identified with the population in a specific geographic community. First, write a problem statement ending with the program which you are introducing as an intervention. It is fine to follow the formula exactly the way it is phrased in the example. Should be FOUR sentences total.

Example on p. 109 as noted by Kettner, Moroney, and Martin (2013) with the following pieces: 1) a qualitative statement, 2) a quantitative statement, 3) a justification action statement in the form of a new program or service. An example is provided below for you to copy as your example.

EXAMPLE

The Problem Statement

Women in domestic violence relationships are being abused and silenced. These domestic violence relationships silence the victims, encourage violence in children, and tear bonds in the community. Furthermore, in Kentucky in 2022, 45.3% of women and 35.5% of men have experienced domestic violence making Kentucky the state with the second-highest domestic violence statistics (“Domestic Violence Statistics by State”, 2022). Therefore, creating a domestic violence program that brings awareness to domestic violence, provides victims with safety, and takes preventative measures will be implemented.

The Root Problem
In a second paragraph, describe the underlying factor(s) or the root of the problem. Ensure you have watched the video and reviewed the links under the supplemental resources about identifying the Root Problem.

EXAMPLE: The Root Problem

The underlying factors of domestic violence are substance abuse, childhood trauma, and mental illness. Individuals who suffer from substance abuse are known to act differently than they would if they were not under the influence. The influence of drugs alters their minds, making domestic violence a genuine possibility. Many abusers have either suffered abuse as a child or were a witness to domestic violence. This exposure teaches them to use violence against others. People who suffer from mental illness disorders (especially those that are untreated and/or undiagnosed) are known to have outbursts, be erratic, and many more. Any one of these factors or multiple combined are the underlying factors of domestic violence.

Is there any theory covered in your textbook this week or last week that would support or explain the root of the problem? (8.2)

New Program Narrative/Change Effort Statement

Lastly, practice writing a New Program Statement or Change Effort Statement. Ex. pages 112 and 113 to include how the new program/intervention will consist of
1) will the program be an extension of a current agency or will the program be using existing resources at an agency or in the community Ex. An outreach program to the homeless through God’s Food Pantry
2) describe what the eligibility criteria for the new program will be Ex. Age, residence, income, existing need
3) Describe how the new program will coordinate with other programs and services in responding to the community. Ex. public library will coordinate by providing a feeding site for summer meals.
