Description:
In this activity, you will participate in a discussion about cover letters and resumes. Find a job posting you are interested in applying for, either now or in the future, and tailor your resume to highlight your qualifications for the position.
Objectives:
- Create a resume and cover letter.
Instructions:
Step 1: Respond to the following:
Find and post a job posting you are interested in applying for, either now or in the future. Write a cover letter specific to that job and attach your resume as if you are planning to apply to that position (you can combine these in a WORD document and attach it directly to the post). Post them for feedback from your peers.
TIP: The best way to approach this is to copy your cover letter directly into the post and then upload your resume, which should be formatted in a resume template, via an attachment in the same post.
Step 2: Read other students’ posts and respond to at least two other students. Incorporate personal experience, if appropriate, to help support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues and provide examples to support opinions.
In your responses to your peers’ posts, be concrete, make suggestions for change, including strategies, movements, obstacles, and so forth. Outside-the-box thinking and debate is encouraged.
Be sure to cite any outside sources in current APA format.
Due Date:
- Online Class: Initial posts must be submitted by due date. Subsequent replies are due by the end of the week (see Course Policies and Procedures or your Instructor for details).
- Ground Class: All post must be submitted by the due date.
Grading:
Be certain to review the rubric to ensure you are fulfilling the requirements.
Use references as need be, but note that they are not required on prompts that specifically ask about personal experiences.
