Do gender roles in organized crime groups influence the leadership techniques and the primary goals that these organizations pursue?

“Do gender roles in organized crime groups influence the leadership techniques and the primary goals that these organizations pursue?” (This is my research question and the main theme that I am focusing on in this paper)

The instructions are:

Your (2-3 page)(literature review draft) should discuss the current research available in the ballpark of your research question. For a better understanding of the purpose of a literature review, see the Literature Review section in the Research Proposal Guidelines below provided.

Your literature review draft should include a paragraph (usually at the end) that includes your research question and explains how your research will expand current scholarship, fill a gap in research, and/or why your study is important. You must also include your References page which is not included in the minimum page count required.

Literature Review Drafts are to be submitted to Turnitin; the system will automatically exchange submissions five minutes after the due date. You will then have one week to review the paper of a peer to make corrections and offer them suggestions (the Peer Review Assignment).

You will design a qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods research project related to crime or criminal justice mentioned above. Assume your project will have unlimited funding and unlimited access to your phenomenon of interest. You will not be doing the research; you are to design a proposal describing what you would to do. For general information see The Research Proposal and “Writing it Up” in Appendix A (Pages 398-404 in text).

Your research proposal should be 8½ – 11 pages including title page and references page

Title Page

Include a title page in APA 7 format.

Introduction (½ – 1 page) and Literature Review (2½ -3 pages)

Your introduction and literature review must include your hypothesis or research question, an explanation of your topic and why it is important, and a review of the current literature (what published studies have found so far).

  • Topic: Select a real-world problem related to crime or the criminal justice system. Choose a topic that you are enthusiastic about. Are you interested in criminal networks (gangs), police misconduct, racially motivated crime, domestic violence, or drug dealing? Something else? The more interested you are in the topic, the more enjoyable the process will be. (Pages 43-44 in text).
  •  Research Purpose: your project needs to be meaningful and have a specific purpose. Think carefully about this question as it will assist you in selecting appropriate articles for your literature review. (Page 399 in text).
  •  Hypothesis or Research Question(s): Describe what you will be “testing” for in your research project. You must first create a hypothesis or a research question. Remember to make sure that your question(s) are researchable given the method and sample you have selected for your study. (Page 36 in text).

Example Research Question: Does yoga improve inmates’ behaviour in prisons?

Example Hypothesis: Yoga improves inmates’ behaviour in prisons.

Literature Review (2½ – 3 pages)

Use the Douglas College Library to facilitate your research.

  • Literature Review: A literature review examines current research published about your chosen topic. Include at least three peer-reviewed journal articles and use APA 7 citation. Do not use websites, encyclopedias, or videos for this assignment. (Pages 47-49, and 401 in text).
  • Example literature Review: First you will want to check the DC Library database for scholarly articles related to yoga programs in prisons. What have they found? Did inmates who participated in yoga programs have fewer violent incidents than those that did not? If you cannot find any articles related to yoga programs in prisons, can you find any studies that are similar? Perhaps there are studies related to art programs for inmates, or animal training programs in prisons. What are the benefits of instituting these programs on inmate behaviour?

APA 7 Style Guidelines:

https://library.douglascollege.ca/cite-your-sources

APA 7 Style Highlights: Ensure you cite each source correctly on your references page. Assignments should use APA font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins. There should not be extra spacing between paragraphs, and long journal article titles or authors’ first names should not be included (they pad the word count).

If you are using section headings, don’t start a new page. Delete extra spaces between paragraphs: I want to see full pages of text within the body of your paper. Keep writing formal: do not use contractions in academic writing, such as don’t, can’t, or there’s, and do not use colloquialisms or slang (such as ‘kids’ instead of children).

Based on my professor’s requirements, the  literature review draft should:

  1. Discuss Current Research:
    • Examine and summarize the current research available related to your research question.
    • Include at least three peer-reviewed journal articles.
    • Ensure you use APA 7 citation format.
  2. Include a Concluding Paragraph:
    • State your research question.
    • Explain how your research will expand current scholarship, fill a gap in research, and/or why your study is important.
  3. Include a References Page:
    • List all the sources you cited in your literature review.
    • This references page is not included in the 2-3 page count.

My literature review draft should be written in a formal academic style, using proper APA formatting throughout.
