Students should gear their presentations specifically to their classmates. They should:
- Give adequate (but brief) background information so everyone will understand your presentation.
- Stress the details or aspects of your paper that you think will especially interest the class.
- Avoid covering every point from their research paper. .
How does a curious teenager find out about sex, its consequences, and risks? Curiosity can lead a youth to many outlets to find information such as older siblings, television, and the internet. If schools were to present a comprehensive sex education curriculum, their students would be getting correct and thorough information instead of getting incorrect and uncontrolled information from elsewhere. I chose to research this topic because I was only taught abstinence-only sex education my whole life—at home and at school. I was fortunate enough to be exposed to knowledge of how contraceptives worked and the risks of casual sex but abstinence-only was instilled in me from my parents and teachers. I never felt like I could have an open dialogue with my parents about sex or contraceptives. Initially, I assumed abstinence-only was either equally successful or more successful at lowering teen pregnancies. I also expected that comprehensive sex education was enforced in more schools in the country. Lastly, I thought that sex education would be absolutely mandatory in all schools, in all districts, in every state.
Throughout my research I have found many important topics of interest. Firstly, comprehensive sex education is more effective. It provides students full knowledge of abstinence, birth control pills, condoms, and the morning after pill. It also gives them a full lesson on STDs and how to prevent them. All of this knowledge has been en to be more effective at lowering teen pregnancies, STDs, and even losing one’s virginity. Another topic is parental consent. The idea has been proposed that comprehensive sex education would be more tolerated and accepted if parental consent was mandatory to attend class. Additionally, many supporters of comprehensive sex believe the curriculum should include transgender and homosexual education as well to truly make it comprehensive. To conclude this information, I have pursued many journal articles, field studies, and newspaper articles. I also included an interview with a high school counselor.
All in all, comprehensive sex education should in fact be mandatory in schools. It is lowering the previously high rates of teen pregnancies and STDs. This form of education gives students someone they can talk to instead of being fearful. Comprehensive sex education is morally neutral while abstinence-only sex education lends itself to Christian beliefs. Throughout this process not many of ideas have changed. Instead, my ideas and beliefs on the topic has only become stronger.
