DQ 1: Student Biography – Meet & Greet (Initial Post Due Tuesday 11:59pm; Response Posts due Wednesday 11:59pm)

nitial Post Criteria: This assignment is designed to help you get to know your peers and understand the MSN Program Discussion Question Grading Rubric requirements.

1.“Carefully” review the DQ Grading Rubric– A minimum of 2 scholarly sources are required for each response post, whether it be an initial or peer post. There should be a minimum of 4 scholarly sources used to satisfy the minimum requirements for each DQ assignment. You may cite the same information gathered from each source a maximum of one time.

2. When answering DQ assignment questions, write your responses in paragraph form according to the latest version of APA. The MSN program uses the Professional option (not the Student option) as a requirement for writing.

Writing Expectations: As with “all” papers, you should include an introduction (“introduction” should “not”  be a heading) and a summary/conclusion (should be a heading) of your paper. You should use the grading rubric criteria in your courses to help you create your paper outline and first, second, and third-level APA headings. You must spell out “all” acronyms followed by initials in parentheses when first introduced. For example, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Any quotes must include the author, year, and either a page number or paragraph number. There should never be more than 1 quote per page or more than 5% quotes in your paper. Unless otherwise instructed, you are held to this standard in our MSN program.

For this assignment, the following bulleted items should be an APA heading. Please refer to the latest edition APA Manual for information on paper “headings”. [No title page or abstract is required. A reference list “is” required. DO NOT attach your file to the DQ; only copy and paste your work into the DQ. Do not attach a file to any DQ in the MSN program unless directed by assignment instructions or the course professor.]

  •  Name/Academic Background (Heading)
  •  Employment History and Current Position (brief) (Heading)
  •  Chosen Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Concentration: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Nursing Education (NE) (Heading)
    • Under this heading discuss one of the following depending on your chosen MSN concentration and provide at least three scholarly references.
    • *Factors that Impact the Transition from a Registered Nurse (RN) to a Nurse Practitioner (NP) (Heading)
    • *Factors that Impact the Transition from a Registered Nurse (RN) to a Nurse Educator (NE). (Heading)

**FYI: You will not be able to see your peers’ responses to the DQ until you “first” submit your own “initial” DQ response. This is how all Discussion Boards are set up!!

**FYI: Submit your work to the “Plagiarism Check” under Module’s view to make sure you have followed APA guidelines before submitting your work to Canvas.

** Use the current edition of the APA manual for all writing assignments. The program provides you with the latest edition of the APA Manual (eBook).  APA Resources are also offered to you under Student Resources.

APA recommends that sources be reliable, primary accounts representing the most up-to-date information wherever possible. The MSN Program supports using sources published in the past five years as a benchmark. However, foundational works may be pretty old but still worth citing when you establish the context for your work. This source may be used but may not be included in the number of required scholarly sources published in the past five years.

  • Background Information/Expert Opinion: Handbooks, encyclopedias, and textbooks often provide a good foundation or introduction and often include generalized information about a condition.  Though background information presents a convenient summary, often it takes about three years for this type of literature to be published. These sources are NOT supported in the MSN Program unless used as background information only. Further, these sources will not count toward the required number of scholarly sources.
  • Response Post Instructions

    Post Criteria

The initial response requires 300 or more words, supported by at least three scholarly references. Proofreading for spelling, grammar, and punctuation are needed – along with APA formatting for the references. Post your response by the due date.

Justify your rationale with the use of credible sources, as well as any professional experiences which further develop your response.

Refer to your APA Manual or apastyle.org for assistance.
