– This is a 2500 word essay focused on,the 17th centruy and early modern literature.
premise :
Personally, I would like to focus on Macbeth, King James, and monarchy during the time of the early modern period, his personal beliefs and how they influenced society
This means I could link in his methods of persecuting witches and the perceived characteristics of them, including the element of fear around female sexuality, and links to biblical references, especially the devil.
– The texts included will be Daoemonolgie by King James the 1st and the social ideas around witches and how they were tortured by the king,
– explain how they are links to devils and devil worship, and the fears around female sexuality at this time.
– inclusion of his history and secondary sources is also a must. All historical sources must be lnked to literature texts which will be:
– Macbeth By william Shakespeare
– Early Modern English Literatureby Jason Scott-Warren
– Mallues Mallifecarium
– I do want the main focus of the essay to be on the monacrhy at the time, king James 1 obession with witches why this may have been, how this was reflected in the literature of the time (plus examples) and the effect this persecution had on the public
