The Assignment:
Your assignment is to present a 6-8 minute speech on a topic which is persuasive in nature. You need to take a position on an issue and present a speech that is designed to obtain acceptance and possible action from the audience. You will need a well-defined introduction, main points, and a conclusion. You must use support material during your speech. Support material includes use of a quotation, a fact, or a statistic. Evidence can be gathered from published sources, the internet, interviews, or surveys. Your sources should be credible and relevant. You need to cite two different sources for this speech.
Your speech must include at least three Power Point slides.
You should deliver your speech from a standing position. Your speech should be extemporaneously delivered from notes. Use a conversational style of delivery. Practice your presentation a number of times.
Your speech must be upload by midnight (central time) of the due date. Review the rubric for grading information.
Topic:
Your topic must be approved by me. Submit your topic in this format: “To Persuade My Audience…”
Once your topic is approved, you should begin preparing your speech.
PowerPoint:
Your PowerPoint slides must be submitted and uploaded with your speech.
Outline:
Your formal outline must also be submitted. Your outline must be typed, using the outlining formats given in the course to structure your outline. The first page of the outline should contain the topic statement, the introduction, the main points and the conclusion written in complete sentences. The second page of your outline should contain a works cited list using APA or MLA style referencing your sources for your support material. Your outline should be no more than 3 pages.
