Effective ECSE professionals understand typical and atypical development of children from birth to age 8. Knowledge of developmental milestones and the sequences in which children develop guides ECSE professionals in creating a developmentally appropriate learning environment and designing quality learning experiences. In addition, ECSE professionals can recognize and take action when a student is not meeting milestones, thus allowing collaboration among families and other ECSE professionals to meet specific student needs.
