Essay 4: Education and STS – Being an Educated Reader and User in a World of Addiction and Overconsumption
For this assignment, you will develop your own research question by using at least one of our in-class texts. In this 4.5 – 6 page research essay, you develop a question in response to one of our class texts and conduct academic research to formulate an answer to this research question. In your essay, first, explain a trend or phenomenon that is related to one of our class texts, using research to support both the explanation of the trend and as evidence to answer the research question you develop.

Develop a research question using at least one in-class text. You will then conduct research using our school database to find at least two sources as evidence to explain your topic/trend/issue and as support for a potential solution or reasoning to validate this trend. In addition to the 2 academic sources, you may use 1 popular source. In total, you must integrate 3 outside sources and refer to at least one in-class text. A research essay that offers readers a deeper understanding of a topic, trend, and/or possible issue/obstacle. You may present potential solutions with evidence that then justifies the solutions in terms of values and consequences (but you do not have to present a solution). You may also offer a deeper explanation for a trend or phenomenon, using evidence from your research to develop reasoning for these trends. A successful essay depends upon the readers’ agreement that the issue/trend exists and that the recommended action/reasoning is justified. |
