– aim to interpret others’ arguments in the most charitable way consistent with the text. The point of philosophy is not to try to score points against your opponents. It is to figure out what is true. If a text permits of multiple interpretations, one of which is more plausibly true than the others, focus on the most plausibly true interpretation.
