Requirements: • 4-5 pages in length, double-spaced, 1 inch margins (it is okay if it turns out a little longer than 5
pages)
• After the 4-5 pages, you can include graphs, charts, and statistics that correspond to your
findings, if you like. These should be placed after the paper and before the references page.
• No cover page is necessary; please use the header on the first page only to include: your full
name, PR & Fundraising Research Project
• For the title, you can compose a title incorporating the names of the nonprofits. Be creative;
figure out what works best for your report.
• In text citations should be written in APA format; you must cite your sources.
• Typed references page in APA format – minimum of four credible sources – This can include the
websites of each nonprofit organization, plus two additional sources.
For the report, you will select a nonprofit organization (can be local, national, or international) to
explore and conduct research on. For this report, you will also be conducting research on a similar,
competing nonprofit organization that can be located near the other nonprofit, or in a different
geographic region entirely. You want the other/competing nonprofit you select to be within the
same genre, size (if possible), and scope as your nonprofit, or comparable to it. Keep in mind that
whatever nonprofit organization you pick to explore this semester, you will also use this same
organization to create a mock PR fundraising campaign for your final project in the course.
You will write your report based on your findings, comparing and contrasting the two organizations.
You should draw comparisons and contrasts between the two, highlighting key similarities and
differences and what can be learned from this. Your conclusion can include information to tie your
findings together. Ending with professional suggestions for your nonprofit based on your findings would
be appropriate.
You can focus on comparing and contrasting elements of fundraising initiatives and campaigns.
However, you should also report on location, audience, # of employees, # of volunteers, mission
statements, public relations tactics, online messaging, etc. and anything else that you deem to be
important that you find through your research.
Your report should be professionally written with an academic tone. Do not write in the first or second
person (I, we, you, etc.). This paper should be of the highest quality as though you were hired to write
this research report by the nonprofit organization. The content should be clear and useful.
Research is an integral part of nonprofit public relations and fundraising. Understanding what competing
nonprofits are doing to raise funds helps organizations to strategize their messages more effectively.
This is an assignment that hopefully you could use as a future work sample.
