Exploring democracy: its epistemology, main ingredients, prospects and democratic peace theory

In the work, you need to write an essay on a chosen topic. There is an explanation of the requirements in the task brief. My work should be devoted to all this+ epistemology of the word.

  • Types of Democratic Regimes: Representative, Parliamentary, Presidential, Direct
  • Main Ingredients of Democracy:
  1. Fundamental Rights and Freedoms
  2. Separation of Power (Montesquieu)
  3. Elections
  4. Rule of Law
  5. The Parliament
  6. Government and the Opposition
  7. Political Pluralism
  8. Public Opinion and Free Media
  • Prospects for Democracy: Is the world becoming more democratic?
  • Democratic Peace Theory: Are democracies more peaceful
But in the work you need also analyse an event or the process of modern life through the lenses of all points that are written above, you can do it in any way, but the topic should be covered. I would start with democracy by itself, its justifications, ingredients and then talking about the exmaple. I have written a bit, so you can use it in the work:

Democracy is a word that appeared many years ago and can be used to describe a system of governance where power is held by people in two possible ways: either directly or through representatives elected by the citizens. It originally comes from the Greek words “demos”-people and “kratos”-rule, which can explain Athenian democracy, where citizens were allowed to engage directly in various decision-making processes, participate in assemblies, and have their “say” in the adoption of different laws and policies. This direct type of democracy became the groundwork for the establishment of modern interpretations and concepts of democratic regimes. Subsequently, philosophers and political theorists have provided a wide range of justifications for the democratic type of governance, which has influenced the modern structures of society.

First of all, one of the main examples of justification is the social contract theory, which takes its roots from Tomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. According to them, people in their natural state set up a social contract to create a government that will ensure their security and protect their rights and freedoms together with the promotion of their well-being and prevention of crises and instabilities. John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau advocated more for democracy, as this form of governance meets the will of citizens and assists them in achieving the common good, establishing a community of free and equal people, with the consent of citizens to be governed by representatives they elected.

Talking about the event, you can focus on Hong-Kong, and its problems with democracy or democratic movements that take place there. Or you can choose another event that is suitable and better describes the situation, but its should be something global, like taking a country and analysing the processes that take place there.

In the beginning there should be a small sort of executive summary, where you will write what is work about and like an introduction.

It is very nice when there citations in the work and the words of someone.
