Efficacy of Patient Priorities Care among Arabic-Speaking Elderly Populations

Research Question

How does the PPC
platform enhance patient-centered communication between Arabic-speaking,
elderly (ages 55 and older) patients and providers regarding the diagnosis and
treatment of multiple chronic conditions?

Aims

1.     
Translate the PPC platform survey
into Arabic and then test pilot (number of individuals to be determined by the
research team) for clarity, accuracy, and comprehension. 

2.     
 Prepare and implement communication strategies
(scripts, emails, flyers, etc.) to recruit Arabic-speaking elders (age 55 and
older) to participate in the translated survey (sample size = N to be
determined by the research team).

3.     
Create and administer a short
interview (less than six questions) targeted to the clarity, accuracy, and
comprehension of the translated survey

Approach

A qualitative research method is the appropriate
approach to answer this research question. This method can interpret the
cultural and experiential case of the Arabic-speaking older population adopting
the Patient Priorities Care technique. The interviews will be semi-structured
with Arabic-speaking elderly individuals who have experienced PPC in their
healthcare settings.
