Chapter 1:
Introduction

Purpose of the study aim, background to study
& objective
–
Aim: the end of the project (what I want to
know /find out with the dissertation
o Explain the purpose of the study (aim) and the
research problem or issue it will address, defining key terms where appropriate
o Describe the background to the study and explain why
it is important and/or of interest and to whom
o State the specific objectives of the proposed study how you
plan to achieve your aims
could be formulated using verbs such as: to investigate, to examine, to
evaluate, to assess, to determine, to develop, to explore, to measure.
o Briefly describe the structure of the remainder of the
proposal
Chapter 2:
Objective:
To review past studies…. In order to find what they missed. Excellent aims and a precise description and
explanation of all research objectives.

Primary review of the literature conceptual
framework. Excellent application
and critique of literature with clear argument on breadth and depth of
literature reviewed and integrated, leading to a sound conceptual framework.

your study (e.g. Work engagement is positively related to frontline employees’

Chapter 3:

Conduct primary research. There is an excellent identification of
currently recognized research methodologies and methods. There is an excellent
use of appropriate (even innovative) methods, and a very robust justification
of the methodology / methods employed and of the consultancy approaches taken
(if applicable). Ethical considerations are described in detail and are planned
excellently.

Justify and describe the design

o Explain your choice of methodology and methods for
selecting a sample or cases, and for collecting and analysing your research
data – justify your choice by compare the strengths and weaknesses of with alternative methods
o Explain the scope/delimitations of the research (eg

o Demonstrate that the study is feasible (eg you will
have access to data, skills, any funding necessary and sufficient time)

findings, so this chapter will be brief, and focus on the expected contribution
of your study.

taken to respect the participants’ dignity, safety, freedom, privacy, and
confidentiality.
