The written component should demonstrate your ability to plan, execute, and reflect on your performance-based project. This document provides a suggested structure for your written report, which should be between 3000 words. Adhering to these guidelines will help you create a clear and focused report.
1. Title Page (Not included in the word count)
Project Title: Explore the ways in which actors convey mental health issues through performance.
2. Introduction (300 words)
• Introduce your performance project.o Explain the rationale for your chosen performance. – State which monologues you are focusing on and why : Katy Twins, Joker (from Batman) and The Beast from beauty and the beasto State your aims and objectives clearly. What is the aim of your project? What do you hope to find out ;include a thesis statement. For example – This project will explore…o Highlight the relevance or significance of your project. – Explain about your invested interest in theatre and why the topic of actors and mental health is important to you.
3. Research and Planning (600 words)
• Outline the research process.o Discuss sources consulted, such as articles, books, interviews, or recordings.o Explain how your research informed your performance decisions. Consider reviews of the actors’ presentations, alongside director’s intentions/ interviews and other literature. Research Stansislavski’s approach: method acting.• Detail your planning process.o Provide a timeline or schedule of tasks. This could be in a table format.o Highlight key decisions made during planning.
4. Execution of the Performance (600 words)
• Describe the execution of your performance.o Detail your preparation and rehearsal process.o Reflect on any challenges faced and how you overcame them.o Provide an overview of the final performance, including audience engagement and technical aspects (e.g., lighting, sound, costume).
5. Analysis and Evaluation (700 words)
• Critically evaluate your performance.o Assess how well you met your original aims and objectives.o Identify strengths and weaknesses in your performance and preparation.o Reflect on feedback received from peers, mentors, or the audience.• Discuss what you have learned from the project.o Highlight skills or insights gained.o Suggest improvements for future projects.
6. Conclusion (300 words)
• Summarise your key findings and reflections.• Reaffirm the significance of your performance project.• Suggest how your work could inspire further study or performances.
7. Bibliography (Not included in the word count)
• List all sources cited in your report in a consistent referencing style (e.g., Harvard or MLA).
8. Appendices (Optional; not included in the word count)
• Include supporting materials, such as rehearsal schedules, feedback forms, or annotated scripts.
Basically the above is a mini thesis/dissertation that requires written elements and performance. The performance side then needs to be written about. The performances will be monologues / songs from the following characters- Kray twons (Tom Hardy’s character representation), The Joker (health ledgers representation but can talk about other joker actors too if it fits the narrative, Dan Steven’s portrayal of the beast in the latest Disney movie and the themes the beast portrays. All very different roles but all with connection to mental health. The other character which could be explored is James mcavoys ‘Patricia’ from the movie split. So four very different characters and actors.
This is an extended project qualification known as an EPQ.

Note the above is the written part that goes in hand with the performance. Don’t worry about the performance bit that will be done but obviously to write about the subject, characters etc you need to know what will be performed.
