WRITTEN ESSAY
You will also be composing an essay during this module.
Written in first person, the essay should examine your relationship with cinema and substantiate a single film that profoundly resonates you. In choosing your film, carefully consider the film’s themes, messages, and technical and artistic merits.
Essay One must be composed utilizing the following:
- Microsoft Word
- A tri-part structure that includes an introduction, body, and conclusion
- The body of your essay must examine your chosen film’s historical and/or cultural context, its production history, and its critical reception
- Three authoritative sources (one for historical context, one for production history, and one for critical reception)
- A cover page
- An APA or MLA formatted bibliography
The ideal length for the essay is two double-spaced pages. Two additional pages are also required – a title page and a bibliography. The page breakdown should follow this model:
- Page 1: Title page
- Pages 2 and 3: Essay
- Page 4: Bibliography (VERY important)
Most importantly, this essay must display a classical structure with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. My recommendation is to structure your essay thusly:
- Paragraph 1: Introduction
- Paragraph 2: Examination of the film’s Historical and/or Cultural Context
- Paragraph 3: Examination of the film’s Production History
- Paragraph 4: Examination of the film’s Critical Reception
- Paragraph 5: Conclusion
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me during our class meetings. I encourage you to ask during class because your question may be of value to your classmates.
