Topic: What are the main challenges to state sovereignty after the end of the Cold War?
The final paper should be your independent analysis of an issue pertaining to the history of international politics, broadly conceived. What is essential is that the topic of the paper is fairly narrow – for example, as opposed to the “US foreign policy during the Cold War”, you should focus on very specific aspects of this policy (e.g., the US engagement in Vietnam War), and further limit the paper’s scope temporarily (e.g., by comparing US and French policies in Indochina). It is further important that the paper is not purely descriptive – it should not be a mere summary of events but your own analysis of the events, their causes and consequences. What might facilitate this is to ask one or few research questions (i.e., “what did cause difference between American and French policies and strategies in the region?”), and/or outline an argument which you then illustrate throughout the paper (i.e., “different importance of Vietnam for the two Western powers”). Relatedly, it is advisable not to get into the general background, and instead really focus only on the topic at hand.
As for the sources, you need to involve at least 5 academic articles, chapters, or books (that is, NOT newspaper articles, NGO reports, etc.). Here are some links that could be useful in recognizing academic sources:
