Task: Students will choose a food to analysis. Any food may be chosen from a cashew to a
Twinkie. The student will use the nutritional label to begin their research. Nutritional labels are
located on packages of many foods or may be found online. The student will take this
information and build upon it with his or her knowledge gained from class as well as formal
research. This information will be presented to fellow classmates during the last week of the
semester.
Audience: The primary audience is the student and their classmates. The student needs to be
aware of the ingredients/nutrients of the chosen food and what affect those ingredients/nutrients
have on the body.
Purpose/Outcome: The student needs to be aware of the ingredient/nutrient list of the chosen
food and what affect those ingredients/nutrients have on the body. The student must learn to use
reliable sources/studies to research each ingredient/nutrient in their chosen food and build upon
knowledge gained from class. After the student spends a semester researching their topic, they
should be comfortable enough with their chosen topic to share it with their fellow classmates.
