For reaction paper #3, read each of the attached “Addict case studies” from the textbook. Choose one of the four addiction paradigms discussed in class recording to both explain and treat the case study assigned to you.

L-M’s “A Housewife”

A Housewife : Alcoholic and chainsmoker.
She lit yet another cigarette off the spent one, crushed the butt in the ashtray that was
already overflowing onto the kitchen table and refilled the glass of sherry.
Outside her kitchen window , the sun shone and birds sang in the backyard trees.
The children had left for school hours ago, but she was still in her bathrobe, the breakfast
dishes were still on the table. There was plenty of the time to clean the house and think
about dinner. In the meantime just one more glass of sherry and another cigarette.

Write a 2-3 page reaction paper explaining why you chose the particular paradigm
that you selected to understand and treat your case study.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of your paradigm with this case?
How specifically might you treat your client within your selected paradigm? (cite
specific techniques or approaches)
Also use a paragraph of your paper to compare your case to the others.
Which other case is most similar to yours with treatment by your selected
paradigm? Why?
Which other case is the most different to yours with treatment by your selected
paradigm? Why?
This Reaction Paper is worth 25 points. A reaction paper is your response to the
specific topic. It is not a mere summary. Reaction papers should be 2-3 pages,
