*Formal Report, Part I: Choose your country

Individually, you will select a country to research (other than the United States). In your research you should focus on the Business Communication topics addressed in the Bovee and Thill textbook (see Chapter 3). You should include an overview of how business communication is handled in that country, as well as a comparison of your selected country and the United States. Include items that might be barriers to effective communication and mention how those barriers might be addressed (see Chapter 3 for possible topics i.e. social differences, legal and ethical differences, contextual differences, nonverbal differences, religion differences, age differences, gender differences, culture differences, etc.). Submit a formal business report (as covered in the text – chapters 13-17) that is between 3 and 6 pages of “content.” *Note: the Title Page, Reference Page, Memorandum, and Executive Summary summarizing your research are in addition to the actual report and are not part of the 3-page min. Please note that minimum effort will yield a minimum grade. All items must be in the same document (see the example in the text as it should look similar). This is NOT a history of the country, but should focus on business communication in the selected country and compared to that of the U.S. Make sure you cite your sources both within the paper and on a Reference page (utilizing APA format) and be sure to use headings (both first and second level) for the report. This report should be professional in appearance i.e. use color, bolding, different fonts, graphics, etc. In other words, the report design will look more like the example in the text, not an APA formatted paper…be creative and think professional! For help with topics, go back to Chapter 3 in the text. There are a number of intercultural differences mentioned for analysis/ comparison. *Order of items: 1) Title Page, 2) Memorandum, 3) Executive Summary, 4) Report (with conclusion and recommendations, and 5) References.

Use pages 439-452 as a guide, prepared in Word, with a professionally formatted Title Page, Memorandum, Executive Summary, and Reference Page. Since this report is brief, a Contents Page is not necessary. Single space the memo and executive summary, however, I do ask that you please double space the report to make it easier for me to read. This will also help with the min. page requirement as well. Be sure to use headings and include at least one graph, table, diagram, or chart (showing info. such as a graph showing how the country compares to others) in the report. You may include pictures and other visuals, but these will not satisfy requirement; however, they will help enhance the professional appearance. Please use APA formatting for citing references, both in-text and on the Reference page, but the rest of the report is not constricted by APA format. In other words, be creative in the design of the report. Be sure to make the title page professional looking. *Note: the business report shown in the text differs from that of proper APA formatting, so just keep this in mind and do not let this confuse you. Just follow the report format in the text, but be sure to cite any in-text citations and include the full references on the Reference Page, utilizing proper APA format. You should cite/reference the text somewhere in the report and have a min. of (3) additional references cited/referenced, for a total of 4 min.

• Direct quotes – “Business communication is essential” (Bovee & Thill, 2021, p. 123).
• Paraphrasing – Business communication is important (Bovee & Thill, 2021).

GUIDANCE: Class, if it helps, for the report, you are my researcher and I will be conducting business in your chosen country. You are researching and reporting to me the best business communication practices, etc. for me to conduct my business there. Therefore, the memo is addressed to me.

Use the example in the text; your report should look very similar to the example other than it will be written to me. All items are required, as specified in the assignment instructions. It should be professional looking and NOT like an academic paper, as specified in the assignment instructions. Remember, this is a formal business report i.e. a professional document.

Be sure to read assignment instructions very carefully and adhere to the same for the best possible outcome and point total.
