- Identify and discuss how the diagnosis has been understood, described, and treated during two historical time periods covered in class. Choose from:
- Ancient Period (prehistory – 1000 C.E.)
- Middle Ages (1000 – 1300 C.E.)
- Renaissance (1300 – 1500 C.E.)
- Reformation/Scientific Revolution (1500 – 1700 C.E.)
- Englightenment (1700 – 1800 C.E.)
- 19th and early 20th century (1800 – 1940 C.E.)
- Identify one moden-day theoretical orientation (either psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral or humanistic) and discuss how the theory:
- Understands the development of the diagnosis
- Explains the symptoms of the diagnosis
- Treats the diagnosis
- This section should include an introductory slide presenting an overview of the perspective including
- its development, including earlier philosophies/theories/ideas that contributed/influenced it
- key ideas
- key figures.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the theoretical orientation
- Discuss the disorder from a Christian perspective
The project should include a thorough critical analysis, which will discuss how the view of the diagnosis reflects the worldview/mindset of the various historical periods covered. The project should utilize at least 8 peer-reviewed, academic journals, of which least one is a primary source contemporary to the topic (e.g., translation of Aristotle’s On the Soul). The required peer-reviewed sources are in addition toassigned readings for the class, and students should note that most well-written papers will likely utilize more than the minimum number of references. Students may find it particularly helpful to refer to the optional reading list on the syllabus. NO websites are allowed and papers using websites (e.g. verywell mind, wikipedia, etc.) will be marked down.The project must consist of at least 16 informational slides (Title page, subheading heading pages, and reference page do not count toward this number). It must also be visually appealing through the use of appropriate/easy-to-read fonts, backgrounds, and the inclusion of content-enhancing illustrations/graphic (i.e., these are used to support the written content and do not replace explanations/discussions). The project must adhere to 7th edition APA guidelines, including citations for all factual information and reference page.
