Writing Requirements:

1. You are to use ONLY the text that was supplied to you. 

2. When writing about the past use the past tense.

3. NEVER use vague terms such as “thing(s)” or “etc.” in the writing for this course.

4. Write only in the third person for this course.

5. None of the writing assignments are comparison in nature. Do not compare the cultures you are writing about with any other culture – ancient or modern.

6. None of the writing assignments are narrative in nature. Do not tell the “story” or summarize.

7. When utilizing quotes from the text keep them brief, 2 lines or less.

Formatting:

1. The paper MUST be at least THREE FULL PAGES in length (with a minimum of 22 lines per page and one-inch margins), not counting the cover or bibliography pages. Papers less than three full pages and over three and a half pages in length will be heavily penalized. Minimum of 66 lines (I will count), Maximum 80 lines. 

2. Include a cover page with student’s name, professor’s name, course, and due date, each on its own line, centered in the middle of the page.

3. Include a separate work cited page corresponding to the exact format in The Chicago Manual of Style. If you do not know, look it up or ask. 

4. The paper must be double-spaced, using Times New Roman font, size 12, black ink.

5. Page numbers on the bottom right. Only number the pages of text, not work cited page.

6. Titles as well as foreign words and phrases are to be italicized (note: the exceptions are personal and place names).

7. No clichés, slang, false, vague, or subjective statements.  Be exceedingly aware of the words you use and their exact meanings. Do not use contractions.
