Here is the rubric copy and pasted: To measure the critical thinking process, students will be required to write an investigative sociological paper on a social family issue listed in the textbook. An examination of social theory / theories that explains the phenomena under investigation. Consider the influence of race, class and/or gender on interpersonal communication, dating norms, development of one’s sexuality etc.

Research Paper:
The assignment is to write a 2-3 page investigative paper using sociological terms, concepts, paradigms and theories. Students will be doing library research and writing a paper that uses other people’s work to support their ideas on a topic.
Topic: The topic may be anything that is of sociological importance in the study of marriage and families and listed as a topic in your textbook. The goal is to identify an issue or problem that the student wishes to critically explore through research.
Objectivity: Determine a stance/position on the topic that is insightful, and takes into account the complexities of this issue. This will include an objective exploration of the limitations of their stance, as well as a consideration of alternative viewpoints. Using academic sources, analysis, evaluation and synthesis to form the foundation of the paper.
Critical Evaluation: Clearly state and comprehensively define the topic utilizing all gathered academic sources for full understanding. The topic must be approached using analysis, evaluation and synthesis. Finally, conclusions drawn must be logical and reflect informed evaluation.

You must use four sources (two academic books, one of which should be your textbook, the other should be an academic book. The other two sources should be from sociological or social-psychology peer reviewed scholarly journals (American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, use the library website to find these )
