How has the widespread adoption of doorbell cameras and CCTV for private surveillance influenced both perceived and actual reported crime rates in residential areas?

I’d like the tone to be very simple, I’m a first language english speaker so my grammar, spelling and punctuation are always up to par but my vocabulary isn’t particularly vast.

Instructions for the research proposal:

Overview of the Task
In this assignment, you will create a quantitative research proposal that implements a survey
to explore actors’ attitudes and perceptions on the topic of surveillance.
The proposal focuses on defining the research question, proposing empirically testable
research hypotheses, and defining the measurement of the key concepts.
The proposal is also concerned with the survey research design, including sampling strategy,
ethical considerations, and approaches to data management.
Task Specifications
Define a feasible research question and identify at least three key concepts of your research.
o Propose a research question and explain why it is worth studying it via a survey.
Conduct a literature review and identify at least three concepts that are relevant to
your study. Highlight some of the relevant empirical findings related to these
concepts.
Propose at least two testable research hypotheses.
o Engage with previous empirical results and literature on your research question and
make sure that your hypotheses have not already been answered but are in line with
existing research. An example for this would be surveying a new target population or
a hypothesis resulting from findings in the extant literature. The hypotheses should
be testable though.
Identify how the key concepts of your research will be measured in the survey.
o Find examples of the operationalization of concepts in the literature and explain,
which type of measurement you take on board in your proposal and why. How did
the authors ensure that their measurement was valid and reliable? What are the
limitations of the scales that were implemented in the previous literature? Note that
the measurement of each concept identified in your proposal should be clearly
stated and justified.
Describe and justify the survey research design.
o Is your survey going to be cross-sectional or longitudinal? Will it be cross-national or
involving only one country? Which mode of data collection (e.g. online, face-to-face,
phone) will you be using and why? Justify your choices.
Describe and justify the sampling strategy.
o How do you define your general population and the sampling frame? Who is your
primary unit of observation (e.g. individual, household, company)? Are you aiming
for a probability or a non-probability sample? What would be your sampling
technique (e.g., stratified, cluster, quota, snowball sampling)?
Discuss the ethical guidelines for the survey.

human participants and how would you ensure that they are met in your survey?
Describe the data management principles related to your survey (e.g., data storage,
information protection).
Assessment Criteria
Word length of approximately 2,000 words (+10%), including footnotes but excluding
bibliography.
Correct language; properly structured and sound argument.
Accurate embedding of the research question and hypotheses in the relevant literature.
Clear description and embedding of relevant concepts in the empirical literature.
Valid representation and operationalization of concepts into measures (variables) by relying
on relevant literature.
Accurate usage of appropriate concepts and ideas from the survey research methodology
discussed in the course literature and lectures.
Critical reflection on the benefits and limitations of various aspects of the survey research
design.
Correct references of relevant academic sources, e.g. textbooks and research articles.
You are allowed to use a topic, close to your project topic, but make sure not to copy
material and ideas from your group report. This would count as plagiarism.
Learning Objectives
Contrast the data-driven and theory-driven approaches to the empirical cycle.
Propose research questions and hypotheses for empirical studies on the basis of existing
research derived from a literature review.
Assess and interpret the reliability of survey scales by referring to the adequate (statistical)
methods.
Decide on the design of the research project using survey/questionnaire as a quantitative
method.
Identify the risk of sampling bias in participant recruitment and its potential influence on
research results.
Apply scientific integrity principles to research designs involving human participants.
Apply good data management principles to research designs involving human participant
