A content analysis performed on sixty Facebook video posts featuring the hashtag “farmworkers,” aims to study the representation of farmworkers on this social media platform. The majority of the videos recognized the economic disparities and harsh working conditions experienced by farmworkers. The videos observed were mostly from sources of official organizations and individual users. Many of these videos expressed gratitude towards the work performed by farmworkers, with very few videos containing lack of.
In recent years, social media platforms have become powerful tools for bringing attention to social issues and promoting awareness. So how is the representation of farmworkers conveyed in Facebook videos? This particular study focuses on the representation of farmworkers on Facebook, utilizing posts with the hashtag “farmworkers.” Hashtags function as data markers, populating relevant posts that relate to the words placed after the “#”. This ensures a focused examination of content specifically related to farmworkers, providing a more comprehensive study.
