Assignment Guidelines
In this assignment, you will create a concept for a production of Everybody as though you were the director. You may use Google Slides, Power Point, Canva, or another visual form to assemble your production concept.
In your production concept, please address the following topics:
- Give an OVERVIEW of your production concept:
- What kind of production concept would you most like to use for this play, and why? Will you treat the script as a “blueprint” (instructions for production), as “concept art” (guidelines for production), or as an object for interpretation (inspiration for production). Be sure to describe in detail what your chosen production concept means in the context of this play — how does your concept come to life onstage?
- Refer to lecture slides on The Role of the Director.Links to an external site.

- If you could choose any kind of theatrical space for your production, what would it be and why?
- Refer to lecture slides on The Space of the TheatreLinks to an external site.
- Please include at least three images that evoke your production concept. These may be photos that show something you’d like to include in the production (a particular space, setting, image, etc.) or abstract images that communicate the “vibe” of the production.

- Discuss the ACTING of your production:
- How do you envision the major characters of the play?
- What kind of acting style would you direct the actors to use? (Are the characters funny? Serious? Realistic? Other-worldly?)
- Does the acting style differ depending on the scene (for example, do the characters behave differently in the “Dream” scenes than they do in the “Archetype” scenes?)
- Please include at least three images detailing how you envision the characters. These may be photos of celebrities/friends/regular people or more abstract images that communicate the “vibe” of the characters.
- Discuss the DESIGN of the production:
- How do you think your concept for this play would best be designed? What kind of set, costumes, lights, sound or other design elements do you think would contribute to a successful production?
- I encourage you to think outside the box! Yes, you could just put Death in a “grim reaper” costume, but what other ideas are possible?
- Please include at least SIX images showing examples of your design elements. These may be drawings or photos of costumes, images containing a particular quality of light, images of a “groundplan” for the set, etc.
- You may also include short videos or sound clips as examples of your design elements.
- NOTE: For this section, you may choose to discuss all design elements equally, or focus on one (or more) design element(s) in greater detail. If you choose to focus your discussion on fewer design elements, be sure to discuss how those design elements would interact with other design elements (does your lighting design affect the costumes, for example?)

How you organize this presentation is up to you! You may separate the elements listed above into sections of your presentation (including different sections for acting, design, directing, etc.), you may discuss the play scene-by-scene, or you may use another organizing scheme that makes sense to you
