This week’s assessment focuses on how citizens, political parties, and interest groups influence the various branches of government at the federal and state levels.
For this assessment, you will research a bill (proposed law) or law at either the state or federal levels and explain the role of political parties, interest groups, and citizen participation related to the bill or law you have selected. You can use the links provided in the support section of this assignment to locate a bill or law currently under consideration.
Imagine you are a writer for a website that educates the public on the impact of political parties, interest groups, and citizen participation on bills or laws at the federal and state levels. You are developing a report on a current political party, interest group, or citizen participation group for a proposed bill or law. Your report will be highlighted as a feature article in your website’s next update. You may complete your report in a Word document. Be sure to use complete sentences.
Assessment Deliverable
Write a 1,050- to 1,225-word report that includes the following:
Name of bill or law:
Name the proposed bill or law you selected, identify whether it exists at the state or federal level, and provide a summary of the bill or law.
Political parties:
Identify how each of the 2 major political parties supports or opposes the bill or law. Explain their positions.
Explain how the political parties and their support or opposition play a role within the government regarding bills or laws.
Interest groups:
Identify how at least 2 interest groups support or oppose the bill or law. Explain their positions.
Explain how the interest groups and their support or opposition play a role within the government regarding bills or laws.
Citizens:
Identify how citizens are participating in support or opposition of the bill or law. Explain their positions.
Explain how citizens and their support or opposition play a role within the government regarding bills or laws.
Summary:
Provide a brief summary explaining which of the above groups’ support or opposition is most important in the context of your selected bill or law.
Cite any sources used to support your assignment. If you need help citing sources, let your faculty member know; they can provide you with feedback and guidance as needed.
Include a section with APA-formatted references at the end of your report.
