In
an age of ‘big data,’ AI, and social media, why are privacy concerns
surrounding personal information so prominent? Does the protection of
privacy online still matter? Why or why not?
Essays
should be in the range of 5 to 7 pages, exclusive of references and
cover page. All assignments are double spaced, 11 or 12 pt. standard
font with one-inch margins on all sides. Please use APA, 7th edition style
for basic formatting guidelines, in-text citations, and the reference
list. Include a cover page with your name, date, title of essay, course
number, and instructor’s name.
Please note that papers should cite at least two
readings from the syllabus (this includes optional readings). Outside
readings are not necessary; however, if you think they might be needed
to help make the paper stronger, feel free to include them.
When
working on an essay, the following are some criteria to consider.
Think of these as general guidelines you can use when writing these
papers:
- Organization & Structure
- Does the paper have a coherent structure?
- Is the paper organized in a logical and clear way that the reader can easily follow?
- Argument
- Is there a clearly stated central thesis or argument(s)?
- Does the argument(s) display strong critical analysis and depth? Is it logically sound?
- Does the paper adequately address the questions raised for that week’s topic?
- Evidence
- Are appropriate readings from the class used to support the central thesis or argument(s)?
- Is there strong analysis and thoughtful integration of these readings into the paper (i.e., not just a summary of readings)?
- Quality of Writing
- Are the style and tone appropriate for an academic paper?
- How is the sentence structure throughout the paper? Is it concise and clear?
- Has the paper been proofread to deal with spelling, grammar, and punctuation issues
