In the world of grammar, the term “mechanics” refers to using capital letters, abbreviations, numbers, and correct spelling. In this discussion board, we will look at the first three of those four items (for spelling, use your spell check in your word processor).
See the video below for an overview of the topic:
Follow the steps below for this discussion board:
1. Review the Purdue OWL (Online Writing Lab) on the following topic:
- Capital letters: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/mechanics/help_with_capitals.htmlLinks to an external site.
- Numbers: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/grammar/writing_numbers.htmlLinks to an external site.
- Abbreviations: https://www.grammarly.com/blog/abbreviations/Links to an external site.
Note: I suggest saving the Butte College grammar site we have used so far this semester in our discussion boards or the Purdue OWL linked above or the grammarly.com site or another good grammar website that you favor so that you can go back to it and check for answers to questions that you might have related to grammar and writing throughout this class and throughout college as a whole.
2. Write a mini-story or continue with the story you created for the Punctuation discussion board.
3. Add in at least one example each of capitalization, numbers, and abbreviations. Also, tend to your spelling to make sure it’s correct.
