Introduction
The core issue with oversight is whether the intelligence community is properly carrying out its function, in a legal manner, by responding to policy makers’ needs and asking the right questions. The National Security Council Office of Intelligence Program is the highest level organization within the Executive Branch that provides day-to-day oversight of intelligence. In addition to this office, there are various advisory boards, such as the President’s Foreign Advisory Board, now referred to as the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, whose responsibility is to carry out a higher level and more objective oversight than other intelligence oversight offices and programs.
In this forum, you will have an opportunity to apply what you learned from reading chapter 10 of your textbook by differentiating the various President’s intelligence advisory boards, but more importantly, by also explaining their purpose.
Ensure your responses are thorough and fully reflect all aspects of the instructions. Make sure you characterize the President’s intelligence advisory boards, but more importantly, you explain their purposes and importance regarding the U.S. Intelligence Community. Make certain you respond to two other students indicating whether you agree or disagree with their characterization of the Executive Oversight boards, and your peer’s explanation of the purpose of those advisory boards. All of your responses should be thorough, clear, and concise and meet all the writing requirements for this activity, and be supported by material from the textbook and online resources.
