You will prepare a research paper on an Indigenous legal tradition or a legal issue affecting Indigenous Peoples in Canada today. Projects must include a visual element (poster) as well.
Paper should contain the following:
How does the community affirm and recognize the law described in the research, and how is the tradition carried forward? Or, in what ways do the laws of the settler-colonial state seek to eclipse or erase Indigenous legal traditions, and how might these traditions be reinvigorated/revived, and further, to what effects might reclamation or resurgence of legal orders alter the relationship between specific Indigenous communities and the Nation-State? What socio-economic, cultural, or political materialities are required to sustain/support/reinvigorate Indigenous legal traditions, and how can the resurgence of Indigenous legal orders/traditions generate positive social change for Indigenous Peoples in Canada more generally? And others more.
Note: This is a fourth year course so it must be detailed thoroughly please. Thank you.
