• Individual learning diary (70%), where you will discuss and reflect on
your learning and how your thinking evolved over the course of the
class.
PART 2: INDIVIDUAL LEARNING DIARY
Upload a PDF of your diary
Worth 70% of overall class mark.
You
will keep a reflective diary of your learning from the beginning of the
course. Each week, you should write up an entry in your learning diary,
discussing your learning and how your thinking has evolved. After 10
weekly entries, you should conclude your diary with a reflective
discussion (1000-1500 words) on how your perception of ‘systems’ has
changed based on what you have learned.
Learning may come from many
sources, including lecture material, forum discussions, the presentation
(part 1) assignment, discussions with lecturers and peers, independent
reading, watching clips, etc. You can include and reflect on absolutely
anything that has contributed to your learning. You should include key
references if appropriate, and you may also include things like images
and diagrams if you wish.
Everyone’s diary will be different and
unique to them, depending on their own experiences. There is no single
correct way to lay out the diary, or sources and topics that must be
covered – this is entirely up to you. However, there are some
requirements that you should make sure you address as these form the
basis of the assessment criteria (included at the end of this document).
You must:
1. Demonstrate understanding of the main learning points arising from the class, and provide an appropriate overview of these.
2.
Demonstrate evidence of additional reading and learning beyond the
class materials. This learning should be at an appropriate depth, and
discussed in the context of/related to the class content.
3.
Demonstrate how your understanding of the subject and thinking evolved
as a result of the module, through reflective discussion.
4. Present
the discussion in a manner that demonstrates mastery of the subject,
allowing you to talk about and debate the subject in a professional
setting.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The presentation will be marked against the following criteria:
1.
Understanding of learning from the class: Extent to which the main
learning points arising from the class have been understood, and an
appropriate overview given.
2. Independent learning and
investigation: Extent of additional reading and learning beyond class
materials, depth of this learning, and extent to which it is related
back to class content.
3. Evolution in understanding and thinking
during the semester: Extent to which the student’s understanding of the
subject and thinking evolved as a result of the module, and depth of
reflective discussion on this.
4. Professional mastery of the
subject: Extent to which mastery of the subject has been demonstrated,
and the ability to talk about and debate the subject in a professional
setting.
NOTE: An underlying goal of this assignment is to help the
course participants to use Systems Thinking in their work. Being able to
explain one’s own learning path with systems is an important part of
this.
