The following Essay is for part of an application proccess for admission to adoctoral level certified registered nurse anesthesia program (CRNA).

The research essay requirements are as follows:
Identify and dexcribe a selected issue related to patient care and safety.
Synthesize the research evidence related to the contemporary issue related to patient care and safety.
Based on the research evidence, describe practice change(s) that should be considered.
Summarize the impact the proposed practice change(s) would have on key stakeholders concerned with the selected contemporary issue related to patient care and safety.
Maximum 2 pages, double spaced with Times New Roman or Arial 12 point font size. A third pace can be used for references only.
Some thoughts I had on the paper:
– Unlike scheduled surgeries, intensive care unit (ICU) patients are often not prescreened for sleep disordered breathing due to the emergent nature of their admissions.
– sleep disordered breathing like obstructive sleep apnea can cause or exacerbate multiple medical problems
– simple interventions like oxygen, CPAP ect…. can improve sleep disordered breathing.
-though thes gold standard for sleep disordered breathing is a sleep study and polysomnography some simpe nurse detection/screenings can be implemented…
