Essay Question: Is building an AI system to predict long-term unemployment “risky” from an ethical perspective?
Things you can consider as you develop your paper:
- What can go wrong with using algorithms to predict long-term unemployment? How could it be used for social bad? How realistic is the chance of that happening? Remember this tool from Case Study 1 was built for the Portuguese government.
- The case study data uses personal information such as geographic location/address, physical and/or mental disabilities, job performance, personal details such as gender, race, past income, profession, and more. Think about how leveraging such information to develop algorithms could be problematic. Give examples.
- Are privacy issues a concern? Is there a chance this data may be shared with third parties that could potentially use this data for bad?
- Could any other case studies we have discussed (or from the textbooks) potentially lead to adverse scenarios where the AI system can cause risk to beneficiaries?
Response Guidelines: To achieve a successful experience and outcome, you are expected to meet the following requirements.

- The paper must be submitted through Turnitin.
