Job Demands/Resources and Their Relation to Nurses’ Burnout and Intention to Quit at Royal Hospital, Oman

Please write a research study report about “Job
Demands/Resources and Their Relation to Nurses’ Burnout and Intention to Quit
at Royal Hospital, Oman
”. Start from macro to micro. Each section must
include an introduction and a conclusion.

The
research questions are:

1.
What
are the primary job demands nurses face at Royal Hospital?

2.
What
resources are available to nurses at Royal Hospital to help them manage their
job demands?

3.
How
do job demands and resources relate to nurses’ levels of burnout?

4.
What
is the relationship between nurses’ burnout and their intention to quit?

The
research hypotheses are:

1.
Higher
job demands are positively correlated with higher levels of nurse burnout.

2.
Greater
availability of job resources is negatively correlated with nurse burnout.

3.
Higher
levels of nurse burnout are positively correlated with a greater intention to
quit.

Data collection for this study will be
quantitative, utilising an online survey via University of York’s Google Drive.
This platform is user-friendly, secure, and compatible with nurses’ devices.
All data will be removed after graduation from the degree program.

A cross-sectional survey will be conducted
among the nursing staff at the Royal Hospital in Oman. Unit nurses, who oversee
multiple wards, will announce the survey during their weekly unit meetings and
encourage participation, but they will have no further involvement in the
study. To facilitate access, I will distribute a QR code linking to the online
survey in each ward.

The online questionnaire will have four
components:

1. Demographic characteristics (gender,
age group, nursing speciality, years of experience, marital status, religion,
educational level, and nationality).

2. Job demands/resources

3. Nursing burnout (Maslach Burnout
Inventory—Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS))

4. Intention to quit

Pilot testing will be conducted to ensure the validity of the
questionnaire’s content. Based on the results, questions may be retained,
adjusted, or removed. This approach ensures that the survey is clear, relevant,
and effective in capturing the necessary data for the study.

The inclusion criteria for the participants are
either ward in charge or bedside nurses who provide direct nursing care to
patients in various units at the Royal Hospital. Ward in-charges are included
as they usually provide direct patient care too. Nurses in managerial roles and
those in non-nursing departments are excluded.

Therefore, 1900 registered nurses at the Royal
Hospital fit the criteria based on the “Royal Hospital’s Nursing
Establishment Control Report – April 2024,”. The clinical areas are varied
as follows:

·       Outpatient Services: (General OPD, Cardiac OPD, Oncology
OPD, Pediatric OPD, Antenatal Clinics)

·       Emergency Services: (Adult ER, Pediatric ER)

·       Intensive and High
Dependency Care
: (Adult ICU, Medical HD, Adult PCSU, TCVS HD, Coronary Care Unit,
Pediatric ICU, Pediatric HD, Pediatric PCSU, Pediatric Cardiac HD, Neonatal
ICU)

·       General Inpatient
Wards
: (Medical Unit,
Surgical Unit, Pediatric Unit, Maternity Unit, VIP Ward, Multispecialty Ward,
Daycare Ward)

·       Specialized
Inpatient Wards
: (Adult Oncology, Adult Hematology, Pediatric Oncology & Hematology,
Adult Cardiac Ward, Intermediate Cardiac Ward, TCVS Ward, Pediatric Cardiac
Ward)

·       Surgical and
Procedural Units
: (Main Operation Theater, Cardiac Operation Theater, Endoscopy and
Lithotripsy, Renal Dialysis Unit, Delivery Suite, Cath Lab)

Diagnostic Services: Radiology Department

Informed consent for the survey will be
obtained by including an introductory section at the beginning of the online
survey. This section will explain the purpose of the study, the nature of the
questions, and the estimated time for completion. It will emphasise the
confidentiality and anonymity of responses and clarify that participation is
voluntary, with the option to withdraw at any time. Participants must check a
box indicating their understanding of the information provided and their
consent to participate. This approach ensures that participants are fully
informed about the study and provide their consent before proceeding with the
survey.

109
nurses completed the online survey, which was conducted over two weeks, from
08/07/2024 to 21/07/2024.

The dissertation must contain the following:

  A comprehensive and critical
analysis of theory, which successfully attempts to critique existing
literature.

  A rigorous methodological foundation
and an original empirical design where appropriate, yielding distinctive
findings.

  Original and creative thinking.

  Excellent presentation.
