Step 1: Review Your Feedback and Milestone 1 Resources
Review your instructor’s feedback on your Milestone 1 submission. If your instructor suggested changing, refining, or narrowing your topic, make sure you do that before completing your Research Proposal Essay. Once your Milestone 1 submission is approved, you may use portions of it as the basis for starting this Research Proposal Essay.
Communicate with your instructor through the Canvas Inbox if you are unsure about whether your topic is approved to move forward to this stage.
Reminder: Your chosen topic CANNOT be the same topic you selected for your Cornerstone paper or a topic you worked on for any other previous assignment in any of your previous courses. The topic of “access to safe water” is used as an example throughout this course and may NOT be selected as a topic by students.

Step 2: Draft a Research Proposal Essay
Your task is to write a 2- 3-page (500-750 word) research proposal essay in which you do the following:
- Introduce the contemporary global problem you’ve selected and explain its significance, both in its field of study and to the larger global population.
- Present a clear argument as to why this topic is worthy of time and attention, making sure to include some preliminary research on the role of cultural diversity on the problem, its creation, and/or possible solutions, supported by evidence from scholarly sources.
- Present at least two ethical perspectives or ethical issues related to the problem, supported by evidence from scholarly sources.
- Include at least 3 scholarly sources to support your points, and make sure to use proper in-text citations and a reference list in APA format. Use the Library resourceLinks to an external site. for help in finding appropriate sources.
Your proposal essay must include the following:
- Proper essay conventions, including an introduction, body paragraphs, transition sentences, a conclusion, in-text citations, and a reference list in APA formatLinks to an external site. with at least 3 scholarly sources.
- Assume that your audience for this proposal is a non-expert without specialized knowledge in the topic you’ve chosen.
- Be your original writing. Any quotations from your sources should be limited to less than 10% of your total word count.
Make sure to read and review the module presentations before beginning. Use the Milestone 2 template to format your essay appropriately. You do not need to include a title page, abstract, or running header for this assignment.
