Introduction

Note: The assessments in this course must be completed in the order presented; subsequent assessments should be built on both earlier work and your instructor’s feedback on earlier assessments. If you choose to submit assessments prematurely, without considering and integrating your instructor’s feedback, your assessment may be returned ungraded, resulting in your loss of an assessment attempt.

The basic definition of multidisciplinary collaboration is working with professionals from other disciplines to serve a mutual client. However, there is much more to it. In multidisciplinary collaboration, there are philosophical aspects (for example, the rationale, respect for other perspectives while maintaining one’s own professional integrity) and practices (for example, the “nuts and bolts” of collaboration). A clear vision and plan for execution are necessary to be successful. In this assessment, you will compare the different ways leaders and managers view and practice multidisciplinary collaboration.

Overview

In the assessment, you will consider how leaders and managers view and practice multidisciplinary collaboration.

Instructions

  • Compare the different ways leaders versus managers implement multidisciplinary collaboration.
    • For leaders, how might multidisciplinary collaboration be considered as part of an organization’s mission and vision?
    • For managers, what needs to be considered to effectively promote multidisciplinary collaboration?
  • Explain how leaders and managers must collaborate to promote multidisciplinary collaboration.
    • How does the vision and goal of multidisciplinary collaboration relate to the implementation of it?
  • Compare how two different leadership styles view and justify multidisciplinary collaboration.
    • For example, how might an authoritative leader view multidisciplinary collaboration compared to a participative one?
  • Analyze aspects of multidisciplinary collaboration between disciplines.
    • How might different professional perspectives influence collaboration?
    • What might be different if multidisciplinary collaboration incorporates interorganizational collaboration (professionals working within different organizations) compared to professionals from different disciplines working within one organization (such as in a hospital)?
