The second step in your leadership journey will focus on making an organized and lifelong effort to understand the motivations of others. As with self-discovery, there are many programs that have been developed over the years to assist in the learning process, with some that are general in nature and some that narrow in on an identified characteristic.
This assignment will be one of those with a specific focus, as we will be looking at generation as our focal point. A lot has been said about generational differences, including some truth and exaggerated generalizations. A professional leader needs to base their behaviors and actions on researched facts as opposed to guessing the motivations of others.

Choose a Generation
For this assignment, choose and study a generation group that has meaning to you from a leadership perspective. Consider one of the following:- Your generational group (your peers)
- The generation that leads you
- The generation that you lead or would like to lead at some point in your career

Research and Write
Once you have chosen a generation to study, produce a 500-word, well-researched paper that discusses the relevant leadership traits and behaviors for that generational group. Plan to answer and include the following questions:- Which leadership styles do they best respond to?
- What are their preferences on how they like to communicate?
- Which work environments do they thrive in?
- What are their primary motivators within work and outside of work?
